Jeremiah Chapters 2-4
Today we continue with our characters of the Bible as we study the prophesies and words of Jeremiah.  You can't really know about Jeremiah and his character/witness unless you read and study his prophesies.
So that is what we are doing at Highland Park Christian Church.
We will be in Jeremiah for a few weeks...we'll take a break from it as we enter passion week and Easter Sunday, course.
Please join us as we continue to study the heart and words of this mighty man of God.
Oh, and invite a friend to join us also.

We continue to pray that you will invite Jesus into your life and make Him Lord of your life, if you haven't already.
And if you need to take care of this please call Pastor Harvey at 323-316-7131 and he will be glad to pray with you.

In My Heart There Rings a Melody
Artist: Jaime Jorge

Here are lyrics for this great song!  Follow along with the lyrics as Jaime Jorge plays this beautiful song on his violin!

In My Heart There Rings a Melody

I have a song that Jesus gave me,

It was sent from heav'n above;
There never was a sweeter melody,
'Tis a melody of love.

Refrain:

In my heart there rings a melody,
There rings a melody
with heaven's harmony;
In my heart there rings a melody,
There rings a melody of love.

I love the Christ who died on Calv'ry,

For He washed my sins away;
He put within my heart a melody,
And I know it's there to stay.

[Refrain]

In my heart there rings a melody,
There rings a melody
with heaven's harmony;
In my heart there rings a melody,
There rings a melody of love.

'Twill be my endless theme in glory,

With the angels I will sing;
'Twill be a song with glorious harmony,
When the courts of heaven ring.

[Refrain]

In my heart there rings a melody,
There rings a melody
with heaven's harmony;
In my heart there rings a melody,
There rings a melody of love.

After singing a few songs, then as a congregation we read together aloud the following scripture...

Jeremiah 2 Kings 22:1-2, 8-13
King Josiah and the Lost Book of the Law

2 Kings 22:1-2
1 Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned for thirty-one years in Jerusalem; and his mother’s name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath.

2 He did what was right in the sight of the Lord and walked [a]entirely in the way of his father David, and did not turn aside to the right or to the left.

The Lost Book
2 Kings 22:8-13
8 Then Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the Lord.” And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, who read it.

9 Then Shaphan the scribe came to the king and brought back word to the king and said, “Your servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have handed it over to the workmen who have the oversight of the house of the Lord.”

10 Moreover, Shaphan the scribe informed the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it in the presence of the king.

11 When the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, he tore his clothes.

12 Then the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Achbor the son of Micaiah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king’s servant, saying,

13 “Go, inquire of the Lord for me and for the people and all Judah concerning the words of this book that has been found, for the wrath of the Lord that burns against us is great, because our fathers did not listen to the words of this book, to act in accordance with everything that is written regarding us.”

Here is the text from the sermon.

Jeremiah 2:2-5
[2] "Go and proclaim in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, 'Thus says the LORD, "I remember concerning you the devotion of your youth, The love of your betrothals, Your following after Me in the wilderness, Through a land not sown.

[3] "Israel was holy to the LORD, The first of His harvest. All who ate of it became guilty; Evil came upon them," declares the LORD.'"

[4] Hear the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel.

[5] Thus says the LORD, "What injustice did your fathers find in Me, That they went far from Me And walked after emptiness and became empty?

Jeremiah 2:7-9
[7] "I brought you into the fruitful land To eat its fruit and its good things. But you came and defiled My land, And My inheritance you made an abomination.

[8] "The priests did not say, 'Where is the LORD?' And those who handle the law did not know Me; The rulers also transgressed against Me, And the prophets prophesied by Baal And walked after things that did not profit.

[9] "Therefore I will yet contend with you," declares the LORD, "And with your sons' sons I will contend.

Jeremiah 2:13
[13] "For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, The fountain of living waters, To hew for themselves cisterns, Broken cisterns That can hold no water.

Jeremiah 2:19-21
[19] "Your own wickedness will correct you, And your apostasies will reprove you; Know therefore and see that it is evil and bitter For you to forsake the LORD your God, And the dread of Me is not in you," declares the Lord GOD of hosts.

[20] "For long ago I broke your yoke And tore off your bonds; But you said, 'I will not serve!' For on every high hill And under every green tree You have lain down as a harlot.

[21] "Yet I planted you a choice vine, A completely faithful seed. How then have you turned yourself before Me Into the degenerate shoots of a foreign vine?

Jeremiah 2:23-24
[23] "How can you say, 'I am not defiled, I have not gone after the Baals'? Look at your way in the valley! Know what you have done! You are a swift young camel entangling her ways,

[24] A wild donkey accustomed to the wilderness, That sniffs the wind in her passion. In the time of her heat who can turn her away? All who seek her will not become weary; In her month they will find her.

Jeremiah 3:2
[2] "Lift up your eyes to the bare heights and see; Where have you not been violated? By the roads you have sat for them Like an Arab in the desert, And you have polluted a land With your harlotry and with your wickedness.

Jeremiah 3:6-10
[6] Then the LORD said to me in the days of Josiah the king, "Have you seen what faithless Israel did? She went up on every high hill and under every green tree, and she was a harlot there.

[7] I thought, 'After she has done all these things she will return to Me'; but she did not return, and her treacherous sister Judah saw it.

[8] And I saw that for all the adulteries of faithless Israel, I had sent her away and given her a writ of divorce, yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear; but she went and was a harlot also.

[9] Because of the lightness of her harlotry, she polluted the land and committed adultery with stones and trees.

[10] Yet in spite of all this her treacherous sister Judah did not return to Me with all her heart, but rather in deception," declares the LORD.

Jeremiah 3:13
[13] 'Only acknowledge your iniquity, That you have transgressed against the LORD your God And have scattered your favors to the strangers under every green tree, And you have not obeyed My voice,' declares the LORD.

Jeremiah 3:15-18
[15] "Then I will give you shepherds after My own heart, who will feed you on knowledge and understanding.

[ 16] It shall be in those days when you are multiplied and increased in the land," declares the LORD, "they will no longer say, 'The ark of the covenant of the LORD.' And it will not come to mind, nor will they remember it, nor will they miss it, nor will it be made again.

[17] At that time they will call Jerusalem 'The Throne of the LORD,' and all the nations will be gathered to it, to Jerusalem, for the name of the LORD; nor will they walk anymore after the stubbornness of their evil heart.

[18] In those days the house of Judah will walk with the house of Israel, and they will come together from the land of the north to the land that I gave your fathers as an inheritance.

Jeremiah 3:21-22, 25
[21] A voice is heard on the bare heights, The weeping and the supplications of the sons of Israel; Because they have perverted their way, They have forgotten the LORD their God.

[22] "Return, O faithless sons, I will heal your faithlessness." "Behold, we come to You; For You are the LORD our God.

[25] Let us lie down in our shame, and let our humiliation cover us; for we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even to this day. And we have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God.

Dr. G. Campbell Morgan

Evangelist, Preacher & Author

"… When a man makes a god according to the pattern of his own being, he makes a god like himself, an enlargement of his own imperfection. Moreover, the god which a man makes for himself will demand from him that which is according to his own nature. It is clearly evident in Mohammedanism. Great and wonderful and outstanding in his personality as Mohammed was, yet the blighting sensuality of the man curses the whole of Islam today. Men will be faithful to those gods who make no demands upon them which are out of harmony with the desires of their own hearts."
