Jeremiah is told to go to the potter's house and get a word from God. So he does. In today's message we look at the comparisons between God/Man and Potter/Clay.

We also look at the the Messianic prophecies that Jeremiah penned in his book.

After singing a few songs, then as a congregation we read together aloud the following scripture...

Jeremiah 36:23-24,27-32 NASB

23 When Jehudi had read three or four columns, the king cut it with a scribe's knife and threw it into the fire that was in the brazier, until all the scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier.

24 Yet the king and all his servants who heard all these words were not afraid, nor did they rend their garments.

27 Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah after the king had burned the scroll and the words which Baruch had written at the dictation of Jeremiah, saying,

28 "Take again another scroll and write on it all the former words that were on the first scroll which Jehoiakim the king of Judah burned.

29 And concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you shall say, 'Thus says the LORD, "You have burned this scroll, saying, 'Why have you written on it that the king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land, and will make man and beast to cease from it?'"

30 Therefore thus says the LORD concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah, "He shall have no one to sit on the throne of David, and his dead body shall be cast out to the heat of the day and the frost of the night.

31 I will also punish him and his descendants and his servants for their iniquity, and I will bring on them and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and the men of Judah all the calamity that I have declared to them-but they did not listen."'"

32 Then Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to Baruch the son of Neriah, the scribe, and he wrote on it at the dictation of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire; and many similar words were added to them.

Have Thine Own Way, Lord
Artist: Adelaide Pollard

Adelaide Pollard was at a prayer meeting in the early 1900's when an elderly lady, instead of asking for blessings from the Lord, prayed "It doesn't matter what You bring into our lives, Lord. Just have Your own way with us."

This phrase rang so clearly in her mind that, before she was even home for the evening, several of the verses had formed in her mind. When she got home, she completed the verses for the hymn. This is one of the hardest things to do - to allow God to have His way with us. We so love our own way and usually believe it is the best way for us. But when we are truly a Christian, we must have faith that God's way is what is best for us. May He help us all to allow Him to have His own way in our lives.

Here is the text from the sermon.

Jeremiah 18:1-12

Jeremiah 15:1-4 NASB

Jeremiah 18:1-12 - The Potter and the Clay

[1] The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD saying,

[2] "Arise and go down to the potter's house, and there I will announce My words to you."

[3] Then I went down to the potter's house, and there he was, making something on the wheel.

[4] But the vessel that he was making of clay was spoiled in the hand of the potter; so he remade it into another vessel, as it pleased the potter to make.

[5] Then the word of the LORD came to me saying,

[6] "Can I not, O house of Israel, deal with you as this potter does?" declares the LORD. "Behold, like the clay in the potter's hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel.

[7] At one moment I might speak concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom to uproot, to pull down, or to destroy it;

[8] if that nation against which I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent concerning the calamity I planned to bring on it.

[9] Or at another moment I might speak concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom to build up or to plant it;

[10] if it does evil in My sight by not obeying My voice, then I will think better of the good with which I had promised to bless it.

[11] So now then, speak to the men of Judah and against the inhabitants of Jerusalem saying, 'Thus says the LORD, "Behold, I am fashioning calamity against you and devising a plan against you. Oh turn back, each of you from his evil way, and reform your ways and your deeds."'

[12] But they will say, 'It's hopeless! For we are going to follow our own plans, and each of us will act according to the stubbornness of his evil heart.'

[33] "But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days," declares the LORD, "I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

J. Vernon McGee

Evangelist

"It is impossible for an unsaved person to do good. All of the do–gooders are not really pleasing God. Until a man does his work in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and for His glory and honor, he is simply doing the work for himself for selfish reasons. No genuine goodness can come out of an evil heart."
