Why Jesus? - Part 3

October 9, 2022
Today in church as part 3 of the message, we discussed Jesus earthly mission.
Jesus mission could be summed up into three main parts.
1. Jesus came to reveal God
2. Jesus came to reveal the Truth
3. Jesus came to save sinner.
Jesus came to save sinners. He is the ONE and ONLY REDEEMER OF ALL MANKIND IN ALL TIMES IN HISTORY.
Acts 4:12
And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under
heaven that has been given among mankind by which we must be saved.”

Jesus Forgives Sins and Heals a Paralytic
9 As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man called Matthew sitting in the tax collector’s office; and He *said to him, “Follow Me!” And he got up and followed Him.
10 Then it happened that as Jesus was reclining at the table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and began dining with Jesus and His disciples.
11 And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to His disciples, “Why is your Teacher eating with the tax collectors and sinners?”
12 But when Jesus heard this, He said, “It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick.
13 Now go and learn what this means: ‘I desire compassion, rather than sacrifice,’ for I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Why Jesus?-Part 3-Jesus' Mission
Jesus Came to Save/Redeem Sinners
Click the video below for the sermon
Pastor Harvey Simpson
(This Three Week Sermon Series is inspired by an article in the summer edition of "Convention Herald"
by Lonnie Witt, titled "Jesus' Unexcelled Mission")
Below is the bible text that we used in the sermon today.
JESUS CAME TO SAVE SINNERS
Matthew 5:17-18,20 NASB
[17]"Do not presume that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill.
[18] For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke of a letter shall pass from the Law, until all is accomplished!
[20] "For I say to you that unless your righteousness far surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven
Matthew 9:2-8 NASB
[2] And they brought to Him a paralyzed man lying on a stretcher. And seeing their faith, Jesus said to the man who was paralyzed, "Take courage, son; your sins are forgiven."
[3] And some of the scribes said to themselves, "This man is blaspheming!"
[4] And Jesus, perceiving their thoughts, said, "Why are you thinking evil in your hearts?
[5] For which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up and walk'?
[6] But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins"-then He said to the paralyzed man, "Get up, pick up your stretcher and go home."
[7] And he got up and went home.
[8] But when the crowds saw this, they were awestruck, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men.
Matthew 17:22-23 NASB
[22] And while they were gathering together in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is going to be handed over to men;
[23] and they will kill Him, and He will be raised on the third day."
And they were deeply grieved.
Matthew 18:12-14 NASB
[12] "What do you think? If any man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains, and go and search for the one that is lost?
[13] And if it turns out that he finds it, truly I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that have not gone astray.
[14] So it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven for one of these little ones to perish.
Matthew 20:17-19 NASB
[17] As Jesus was about to go up to Jerusalem, He took the twelve disciples aside by themselves, and on the road He said to them,
[18] "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn Him to death,
[19] and they will hand Him over to the Gentiles to mock and flog and crucify, and on the third day He will be raised up."
Luke 22:39-44 NASB
[39] And He came out and went, as was His habit, to the Mount of Olives; and the disciples also followed Him.
[40] Now when He arrived at the place, He said to them, "Pray that you do not come into temptation."
[41] And He withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and He knelt down and began to pray,
[42] saying, "Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done."
[43] [Now an angel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him.
[44] And being in agony, He was praying very fervently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground].
Matthew 27:15-26 NASB
[15] Now at the Passover Feast the governor was accustomed to release for the people any one prisoner whom they wanted.
[16] And at that time they were holding a notorious prisoner called Barabbas.
[17] So when the people gathered together, Pilate said to them, "Whom do you want me to release for you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?"
[18] For he knew that it was because of envy that they had handed Him over.
[19] And while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent him a message, saying, "See that you have nothing to do with that righteous Man; for last night I suffered greatly in a dream because of Him."
[20] But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas, and to put Jesus to death.
[21] And the governor said to them, "Which of the two do you want me to release for you?" And they said, "Barabbas."
[22] Pilate said to them, "Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?" They all said, "Crucify Him!"
[23] But he said, "Why, what evil has He done?" Yet they kept shouting all the more, saying, "Crucify Him!"
[24] Now when Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that a riot was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of this Man's blood; you yourselves shall see."
[25] And all the people replied, "His blood shall be on us and on our children!"
[26] Then he released Barabbas for them; but after having Jesus flogged, he handed Him over to be crucified.
Luke 23:39-43 NASB
[39] One of the criminals who were hanged there was hurling abuse at Him, saying, "Are You not the Christ? Save Yourself and us!"
[40] But the other responded, and rebuking him, said, "Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?
[41] And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our crimes; but this man has done nothing wrong."
[42] And he was saying, "Jesus, remember me when You come into Your kingdom!"
[43] And He said to him, "Truly I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise."
2 Corinthians 5:21 NASB
He made Him who knew no sin to be sin in our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
